The ANY-maze, hydraulic "Atlantis" platform is designed to raise or lower a platform in the water maze, under software control. Using ANY-maze, the experimenter can create specific situations under which the platform should be raised/lowered, such as the animal spending a certain amount of time in the platform quadrant.
